The pharmaceutical industry in Indonesia is resisting the obligation to certify halal, citing concerns over cost and time. According to Frida Chalid, administrator of the Association of Indonesian Pharmaceutical Companies (GPFI), requiring halal certification would slow down the production process of drugs, making them more expensive and decreasing accessibility to the public. This is particularly problematic as drug manufacturers also support the government’s National Health Insurance (JKN) program, which requires the distribution of high-quality and affordable medicines.
